Mika Häkkinen has had a slow rise to
the great success he
has experienced in
Formula 1. He made an impressive debut with Lola in 1991, where he routinely outpaced his
team-mates. Then, in 1993, he would start his infamous relationship with McLaren, as he replaced the
under performing Michael Andretti for the final three races. From then on his career follows the
quality of the McLaren cars; quick in 1994 with teammate Ayrton Senna and then slow in 1995 as Honda left the
team. Despite the
poor car Mika had
some impressive
drives, and then by
1996 Mercedes joined
the team, a move
which was destined
for greatness. After two seasons of rebuilding, Mika finally saw success, which came with impressive back-to-back World Championships.
After 2001 Mika hung
up his helmet in
retirement from
Formula 1.
