When Heinz-Harald arrived in Formula 1 in
1994 it was clear that a new star had entered the
sport, as his debut season
saw him take his
lowly Sauber to four point
finishes. As testament to his
impeccable
character, he turned down a dream position at Williams to replace the deceased Ayrton Senna
in 1994 in order to honour his contract with Sauber. He eventually did join the Williams team in 1997, yet besides
occasional flashes of brilliance his time at Williams was disappointingly uneventful. Then, in 1999, he joined Jordan where he proved to all who doubted him that he was a star by bringing his team from
perennial mid-fielders to championship contenders, just 10 points shy of the World
Crown. After
two dreadful seasons
mixed between three
teams, he is back at
Sauber and hoping to
return to his true
championship form.
