This gentle, laid back Brazilian faced the daunting task of taking the reigns from his idol, Ayrton Senna, after his death in 1994, as Brazil's
premier race driver, and unfortunately
has had a tough time living
up to the
immense pressure to perform.
Yet now that he has
joined the most
prestigious racing
team in the world,
Scuderia Ferrari, he
is finally in a
situation where he
can showcase his
talent and compete
for race wins. Previous to Ferrari, Rubens spent his first three F1 seasons at Jordan, where at a very young age showed the F1 world he was destined for success.
Then Jackie Stewart
hired him to spearhead his newly formed Stewart-Ford team in 1997, where he spent three seasons struggling with the growing pains of a new F1 team.
Now at Ferrari
Rubens has become
one of the most
recognizable
drivers, and should
teammate Michael
Schumacher quit any
time soon, he would
be a favorite to
claim the world
championship.
